Festival Lates - the Jazz Age: Tom Poster, piano
Music for a late summer evening, including Ravel’s ‘La Valse’ and ‘Pavane pour une infante défunte’, and Tom’s own arrangements of songs from the Great American Songbook by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and others.
An early fan of jazz music, Maurice Ravel travelled to America and met George Gershwin following a performance of ‘Funny Face’ on Broadway. The friendship and admiration that developed between the two composers forms the backdrop to Tom Poster’s short recital, a delicious blend of Gallic flair and smooth American jazz!
“…[Tom Poster is] a marvel who can play anything in any style.” The Herald
